Congratulations to our Farm Manager, Anthony Reyes, for being named by the Berkeley Food Institute (BFI) as one of twenty of California's Emerging Food Systems Leaders.

We're thrilled that Anthony was honored by Berkeley Food Institute's Hungry for Change, a project featuring California innovators working to transform food and agriculture systems within their community and beyond. BFI highlighted 20 up-and-coming trailblazers who represent a broad range of geographic regions, areas of reform, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Thanks to everyone that came out to our July 14th Sustain Supper fund raiser on the farm featuring Jimmy Panetta!

It was a beautiful evening on the farm with a delicious meal created by our volunteer chefs shared by all. Moving talks were given by Congressman Jimmy Panetta, HGP crew member Rick Buchalter, and Santa Cruz City Council member Cynthia Chase.

Chefs for the evening included Peter Henry from The Cremer House in Felton, Yulanda Santos from Aubergine in Carmel, Sarah LaCasse, Chef Consultant for Earthbound Farms in Monterey, Steve Wilson from Cafe Cruz in Santa Cruz, and Emilse Pereira Beck of FoodZense in San Francisco.

Pogonip Farm, the Homeless Garden Project’s new home located on 9 acres within the City of Santa Cruz’s Pogonip greenbelt property, will triple our job training capacity through a public-private partnership.  Serving as a national model, Pogonip Farm will be the heart of HGP’s dynamic agriculture program for people who are experiencing homelessness by teaching skills that transform lives, as well as provide volunteer opportunities for community members.

HGP will bring a focus on stewardship, conservation and regenerative agriculture principles to Pogonip Farm.

Later in the year, we will invite the greater Santa Cruz community to participate in this extraordinary opportunity for the Homeless Garden Project to make Pogonip Farm a reality. Stay tuned!
